Patrice Lawrence was born in Brighton and brought up in an Italian and Trinidadian household. Her debut for young adults YA novel Orangeboy, won the Bookseller YA Prize and the Waterstones Prize for Older Children’s Fiction in 2017 and shortlisted for the Costa Children’s Book Award. Indigo Donut, her second book for teenagers won the CrimeFest YA Prize. Both books were nominated for the Carnegie Medal as was her follow up Eight Pieces of Silva which also won the CrimeFest YA Prize and the 2021 Jhalak Children’s and YA Prize.
