What would you do with a robot best friend? Bestselling award-winning author, Frank Cottrell-Boyce will introduce you to Alfie, a boy who loses his hand in an accident and is very lonely until he meets Eric, a one-legged robot, in his brand new book Runaway Robot.
Frank Cottrell Boyce started his career writing episodes of Coronation Street and Brookside and is a successful screenwriter whose film credits include Welcome to Sarajevo, Hilary and Jackie, 24 Hour Party People and The Railway Man as well as a couple of episodes of Dr Who.
His debut children’s novel Millions won Carnegie Medal in 2004 and was later turned in to a film by his friend Danny Boyle. His second novel Framed won the Whitbread Children’s Fiction Award and his third, Cosmic was nominated for every major children’s writing prize. Other books include The Astounding Broccoli Boy and Sputnik’s Guide to Life on Earth and he’s also the author of a popular trilogy based upon Ian Fleming’s much loved classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Frank was also the official scriptwriter for the Opening Ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics, playing an important role devising the ceremony with Danny. His favourite foods are fish finger sandwiches, Marmite and wine gums.
