I was sent away to boarding school at a young age so I had more time for reading that I really wished for. Thankfully, it taught me a love of reading which has stayed with me for my whole life. One of the first books which I enjoyed was the Jennings Series. The author, Anthony Buckeridge managed to capture the life of a boys’ boarding school so humorously but realistically enough that I could identify with it. I have no idea if they are still read today.
However, I think it was probably reading Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings that truly turned me into a reader. Middle Earth was an utterly captivating world to me and I lost myself in it for weeks. I was delighted to share that world with my son as he grew up too.
