About Barnes Children’s Literature Festival

I’m delighted to welcome everyone to the very special Barnes Children’s Literature Festival. As the Chancellor of Roehampton I’m proud that the University is in partnership with the Festival and will involve our lecturers and students in the programme. As a writer of children’s books I have very fond memories of taking part in the Festival myself, and know it to be delightful, imaginative, innovative – and beautifully organised.
Enjoy, everyone!

Dame Jacqueline Wilson, Chancellor, University of Roehampton

About Barnes Children’s Literature Festival

We at BCLF want to get children excited about literature, literacy and creativity whilst giving them the tools to create their futures because we believe that kids can live their dreams through the power of reading and that the future is theirs to write.

2019 will be our 5th year and we’re proudly growing in success (now London’s largest dedicated children’s literature festival – not that we like to brag!), featuring many big name authors and illustrators, amazing children’s shows and attracting thousands of families! See our Galleries of who’s been so far…

We’ve hosted; the UK premiere of Chris Haughton’s ‘A Bit Lost’ by the Boulevard Theatre from Stockholm, The Magic of Harry Potter Stage Show, the Moomins, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant and workshops by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and Aardman Animations.

Education & Community Outreach Pilot Programme:

In 2017, we launched our Education & Community Outreach Programme, specially curated, curriculum-linked sessions which we provide free for every primary school pupil in London.

In 2018, we hosted 3,000 children from the Richmond, Wandsworth, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kingston and Merton boroughs.

This year we’re offering 2 days of events for Key Stage 1 & 2 to inspire the next generation of readers and writers. For more information see our School page.

We’re all about the Community

The BCLF is a community event presented in partnership with the Barnes Community Association (BCA), the University of Roehampton, Barnes Bookshop and over a hundred volunteers from the local area. They know who they are and we couldn’t do it without them! If you’d like to get involved see more information here.
