Welcome award-winning author and illustrator Ed Vere!

Come and hear Ed read from his brilliant new book Grumpy Frog which introduces us to an endearing new character who learns about compromise, tolerance, friendship and the power of saying sorry.  This book is perfect for reading aloud and will delight children and adults alike with its vibrant illustrations and hilarious text.

Ed will also be drawing so bring your creativity and enjoy a fun, arty event.

Ed Vere wanted to be an artist from an early age. Either that or a farmer and he thinks that there might still be time to combine these two great loves!

Ed is the author of Max the Brave, the New York Times and USA Today bestselling book that was also named as one of The Sunday Times ‘100 Modern Children’s Classics.’ It was also longlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal and has been published in twelve languages.

Ed won his first award, the Highland Children’s Book Award in 2007, with his debut, The Getaway. In 2009, he won Booktrust’s Baby Book Award, with Chick. The same year, Mr Big – the story of an enormous gorilla who finds a whole new world of friends when he joins a jazz band – was chosen by Booktrust as the official Booktime book for 2009 and was subsequently distributed to 750,000 British schoolchildren, making it the largest single print run of a picture book in the UK. His Bedtime for Monsters was shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2011.

Ed lived in Barnes for a time and says he was lucky enough to know Jan Pienkowski when he was growing up. ‘Visiting his studio had a huge influence on me, especially seeing a way of life and a freedom which appealed to me enormously.’ Ed still knows him well and until a few years ago would go to life drawing sessions every Friday night in his studio, along with a small group of others.
